A Green Flag Eco School

We are very proud of our Eco flag at Riverside.  The Eco Committee and the whole school have worked so hard to get it.  And guess what….we are now working towards our second Green Flag!  To work towards the second Green flag we shall be looking at waste minimisation, promoting transport and continuing with our litter initiative.

Recycling at Riverside

We have many things happening to ensure we do our best to recycle at Riverside.  As a whole school we all try to:

  • Recycle plastic bottles in the blue plastic bins inside the school and in the playground.

  • Use the recycling paper sack in our class and we also have a scrap paper tray to make sure we re-use paper.

  • Compost bins for fruit, veg and paper waste.  We have brown bins in the playground, canteen and in some class rooms to fill up our big compost bin outdoors.

Rag Bag

Twice a year we have a Rag Bag collection at Riverside.  Our recent Rag Bag collection raised over £144 for our Eco Committee.  Well done and thanks to all who sent in a bag or two!  The next collection will be in the Spring.

 Litter initiative

At Riverside we like to keep our playground litter free so that’s why we have our litter pickers to ensure the playground is kept clean and tidy at all times.  All classes within the school are involved with this and take their turns at lunch time.  Mr Bruce our janitor is very impressed with how good a job the litter pickers do!
