January 2012 Newsletter
Well…………. 2012 seems to be well underway already!
Staffing
We say a sad farewell to Mr. Lawson who will be leaving us on Friday 27 January to take up a promoted post in Bannockburn Primary School. We also welcome Miss Kirsty Lockhart who has joined us as a class teacher. Miss Lockhart has been working with Mr Lawson and P.6/7L over a couple of weeks to ensure a smooth transition for the children, and will take over teaching P.6/7L from Monday 30 January.
We will all miss Mr Lawson, for his commitment to the children, his hard work ….and his charm! We wish him
well in his new post.
Focus Week
Our ‘Going for Gold’ Focus Week runs from Monday 19 ~ Friday 23 March. More information will be coming your way soon and we will as usual be looking for your support!
Refurbishment
Plans are now underway for our refurbishment. More information to follow…...
Rotary Club Quiz
We were delighted to be asked to enter a team of P.7 children in the Rotary District Schools’ Quiz. The initial heat of the general knowledge quiz takes place on Friday 27 January in Stirling High and the question master will be the TV presenter Neil Oliver. Any P.7 children who would like to go along to support the team must be accompanied by an adult and should be at Stirling High for 5.30 p.m. Please let us know by Thursday 26 January if you are going along to support the team. We wish the team the best of luck ………... Go Riverside!!
Instrumental Tuition Scheme
We have been asked by Stirling Council to pass on the following information to you:
In order to allow more parents the opportunity to let us know how we are getting on, the Instrumental Service is offering an online survey for parents of pupils involved in the Instrumental Tuition Scheme and we would appreciate if parents/carers would spend a few minutes completing it, in order for us to assess and improve our service.
The survey is available at svy.mk/musictuition until 10th February 2012. To minimise costs, the survey is available online but if you would like to receive a paper copy of the survey, please telephone Irene Paterson on 01786 442520.
Litter Initiative Trophy
We are delighted to let you know that we have won the Urban Schools category first prize of £100 in Stirling Council’s Litter Initiative Scheme. Congratulations go to our Eco Committee and everyone in school for their hard work and commitment to keeping our playground at such a high standard! The money will be put to good use by the ECO Committee to continue the good work towards out next Green Flag.
Unauthorised Absences
Just a reminder that we follow Scottish Government guidance on how attendance and absence at school are recorded. This guidance states that family holidays taken during term time will be categorised as unauthorised absence and that schools may only authorise a family holiday during term time under very exceptional circumstances. Please give careful consideration to the impact on your child’s learning when they are not at school, and in particular when taking holidays in term time.
Extra Holiday Date
The day of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has been set as a public holiday, therefore school will be closed to pupils and staff on Tuesday 5 June 2012.
